Help Full Circle Communities Build Essential Affordable Housing
A recent survey conducted by the MacArthur Foundation found that nearly two-thirds of all Americans believe housing affordability is a serious problem facing the nation in the 21st Century. Those fears are far from unfounded: The National League of Cities reports that 42% of American cities face economic barriers due to a shortage of affordable housing. Many businesses are wary to open or expand in areas of skyrocketing housing prices – their withdrawal creates a dangerous ripple effect of stalled growth and economic stagnation.
Full Circle Communities is fighting to reverse that ripple effect. Currently managing seven communities in four states, with two more in development, Full Circle directs all of its resources towards creating new projects and, critically, providing supportive services for their most vulnerable residents.
Among the most vulnerable group impacted by the ongoing shortage of affordable housing are senior citizens. Spending a disproportionately high ratio of their income on housing can often force seniors to neglect or ignore essential medical procedures. Full Circle has consistently made expanding affordable housing for seniors among its highest priorities. To date, they operate properties in two states – Richmond, Illinois, and Marion, Iowa – solely devoted to meeting the needs of residents aged 55 and older.
Furthermore, Full Circle understands that securing affordable housing is but one step on the path to complete independence – they understand that without supportive services, those vulnerable populations will inevitably fall through the cracks. In the case of their senior citizen population, many live in a coverage gap: making too little to afford essential medical services, but too much to qualify for government assistance. To help bridge that gap, Full Circle provides on-site medical services, as well as free transportation to clinics and doctors’ offices.
